Description
Cheers for the Emperor of Japan: More than 120,000 people, many of the women in gay kimonos, filed through the grounds of the new Imperial Palace in Tokyo on teh second day of the New Year to cheer Emperor Hirohito and members of the Imperial Family. New year celebrations last a week in Japan and on the second day the members of the Imperial Family made eight appearances to cries of ''Banzai'' from the crowds. The Emperor acknowledged the greetings from behind a bullet-proof screen, installed two years ago after a deranged man fired a ball-bearing at him from a catapult.
