Wreck Of Early Dutch Ship At Hastings: The bows and gunwales of the Dutch East Indiaman, Amsterdam, emerging at low tide on the beach at Hastings, where she sank in 1749 with a cargo of gold, silver and wine. Amsterdam city council are to raise ~2 million to return the wreck to the city for its 700th anniversary in 1975. Examining the wreck are (from left) Mr. Lean Boender and Mr. Louis den Hertog, K.L.M. airline executives, and Mr. Vernon Leonard.
