Lowest Rhine Waterlevel since 1964: The Rhine bed is almost half dried up, (here near Ringen). After the last dry weeks the waterlevel sank ominously. In the view of the experts a quick and noticeable increase in the waterlevel is not likely. After the hot summer of 1971 and the inadequate snow-break of the last mild winter, there is a an outstanding "water-deficit", that will make itself felt in the next spring.

Photo measures 8.75 x 6.5 inches.
