1965 Press Photo Argentine military expidition lead by Col. Jorge Edgar Leal

Description
After marching 46 hard days through the icy grounds of the Antartic, an Argentine military expidition lead by Col. Jorge Edgar Leal reached the South Pole on December 10,1965. Col. Leal and his group left the Argentine base on the Weddell sea "General Belgramo" on October 26 and marched 1110 kilometers fighting their way under worst weather conditions, to reach the South Pole as the fourth nation achieving this goal. Robert Scott from England, whose expedition finished in tragedy in 1912, and finally the englishman Vivian Fuchs with the Newzealander Edmund Hilary conquered the South Pole in 1958. Photo shows expedition leader Colonel Jorge Edgar Leal, on the first lap of the expedition.
