Delilah and her brood of six cygnets float happily round the quiet little pond which the R.S.P.C.A. has given them, Where Delilah had her wing amputated can be clearly seen. The Swan that fought a train - she tried to save her cygnet.: The bravest mother they have known, that's what the R.S.P.C.A at lpswich thinks of Delilah - the swan who form fought a train. She was leading her seven cygnets - all in line - across the railway track at Baylam when she turned in time to see the seventh in the path of an incoming train. She turned on the train in an attempt to save her offspring, only to see it killed. The swan's left wing was smashed by the train and had to be amputated. But even the saddest stories often have happy endings and this one does. Delilah and her six cygnets have now been given a quiet and tranquil pond all to themselves by the R.S.P.C.A. in a quiet corner of Ipswich. Delilah has fully recovered and although she only has one wing now, she is happy in her new home safe from the menace of the railway lines and engines.
