Description
Clock Winder's Time Runs Out. Standing in front of the clock at St. Paul's Cathedral yesterday - Mr. Wilfred Cripps, who was been winding it by hand almost every day for 34 years. His job is over, as an automatic electric winder system is now being installed. Mr. Cripps, of Avondale Square, Camberwell, reckons he has climbed in all 2,250,000 steps for his daily ritual. The clock will be going again on Thursday. Mr. Cripps said: "I'll miss it. It has character - and it has been my life".
