Annual Blessing-The -throat Ceremony In London Ceremony Which Originated In A.D. 316: The annual ceremony of blessing-the-throat was held this morning at St. Etheldreda's hoborn.It is a Roman Catholic ceremony which originated more than 1,600 years ago. It is in memory of St. Blaise-who, in A.D. 316 was being marched to his execution when he saw a child choking with a fish bone in her throat. he touched her throat and healedit. Ever since then Roman Catholics have celebrated the Feast of St. Blaise with the throat-blessing ceremony. Photo shows.
