12-Year Old Girl Breaks World Swimming Record: 12-year old South African swimmer, Karen Muir, yesterday became the youngest-ever world record breaker - when she broke the women's 110-yard backstroke world record, at Blackpool. Her time of 68.7 sees was set up in a heat of the girls' 110-yar backstroke, at the National Swimming Championships. Karen thinks she can swim even faster. Photo shows After her record-breaking swim, Karen Muir gets a hug from team manager, Alex Bulley.
