Artillery duel across Suez Canal: A five hour artillery exchange of fire took place along the 100 km. of the Suez Canal from Kantara southwards. In the artillery classes, the oil storage tank in the Suez Refineries was hit by Israel shells, and the Egyptian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Major Gen. Abdul Moneim Raid, was killed. Photo shows acting Prime Minister of Israel Yigal Allon (in hat) and the Chief of Staff Haim Bar Lev pictured at the Suez Canal after the shelling.
