November 27th, 1979 British Leyland Boss Sir Michael Edwardes refuses to reinstate Communist shop steward - Sir Michael Edwardes, Chairman of British Leyland, is standing by his guns over the sacking of Mr. Derek Robinson, the Communist shop steward whom he sacked a week ago from his job as a tool fitter at Leyland's biggest works, Longbridge, Birmingham. Yesterday, Mr. Robinson led a march through the city of 3,000 of his supporters calling on Sir Michael to reinstate him of he would shut down Leyland. Photo Shows: Sir Michael Edwardes seen outside his London office in his statement today he said, "British Leyland would not surrender to the threats of Mr. Robinson'.
