Boy Crippled By Arthritis Leaves Hospital.
A Youth crippled with arthritis was turned out of a hospital because his parents cannot raise an extra Pound700 for his treatment. It puts an end to his hopes of ever walking again. 19-year old Sotiris Athanasiades flew from his home in Athens with his mother after friends and neighbours raised Pound500 to pay for three months treatment at the Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital, Taplow, Bucks. He was ready for his first operation when the authorities discovered that his mother Mrs. Helene Athanasiades, did not have enough money. The treatment which Sotiris thought he would get for Pound500 will in fact cost Pound1,200. His mother, who has scraped and saved to try and get her son cured, is in tears about it. She cannot hope to get Pound700. She is having to work at an hotel in London just to be in England with the boy.
