Description
April 2nd, 1970 Records broken as trout season opens in Old Gravel Pits - Trout fishermen were out in force yesterday when two large artificially made trout lakes opened for the new trout-fishing season at North Mundham, near Chichester, Sussex. The 22-acre and 17-acre lakes were until recently disused water-filled gravel pits belonging to a gravel and aggregates firm, John Heaver, of Chichester. The company has removed all the course fish from the lakes, restocked them with 4,000 brown and rainbow trout and landscaped the banks to give the area a pleasant park-like appearance. The first lake opened last year. Yesterday the second lake came into use, and soon a 2lb 14ozs brown trout was taken, beating last year's record of 2lb 8ozs. Each angler is allowed to kill up to four fish a day. Photo Shows: Mr. S. Cannell of Hayling Island, Hants, with two brown trout, one over 2lb, caught yesterday.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.

Photo is dated 4-4-1970.
