Description
WILL TOM BE THE WINNING WORM... Latest from the Worm Derby news-front is that, following the unfortunate death of Brighton favourite Whippy Willy, owned by Christopher Hudson, a new favourite has appeared to challenge Willy's successor. This time he is stalled" at Chessington Zoo and receives daily weighing and training from the animal experts there. Training consists of carefully worked out diet - carrot is a favourite - and constant watch on worm weight, as well as practice under stop-watch conditions, with the aid of pace-maker worm mates...Chessington's entry is named Tom. He was 'dug up' by Bert Senior, the Animal Superintendent, and his wife is acting as an assistant trainer. The big race takes place on Sunday down at Brighton, by which time Christopher Hudson's new entry is hoped to be on form, and another bath of lock racers should be ready for the 'off'. Watching Tom's weight, end studying his condition down at training headquarters are Bert Senior and co-trainer Andy Bowen. The feather is part of the art of getting a sluggish worm to move. Worms are reputed to be very ticklish.
