100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF GEORGE SAND Hundred years ago, on June 8th 1876, Amandine Aurore Lucie Baronne de Dudevant, who called herself GEORGE SAND (picture), died on Chateau Nohant in France. Over a century ago, George Sand already fought for equal rights for women, turned against bourgeois standards of morality in her novels and demanded the right of free love for women. George Sand herself, after having been divorced of Baron de Dudevant, lived with poet Alfred de Musset and later with composer Frederic Chopin. The most popular books by George Sand are her village-novels, written about 1850, further "Indiana", "Lelia" "Consuelo", "The Countess of Rudolstadt" and others. George Sand was born on July 1st 1804 in Paris.
