Meet Of The Devon And Somerset Stag Hounds: The Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds met yesterday at the somerset village of Bury.. Mrs. Cecily Norman, of the Ilfracombe branch of the Royal society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals - took a placard to the meeting bearing the words "Ilfracombe demands outlaw this cruelty"... Photo shows: Happy expression on the faces of members of the Hunt as they carry the stag - at the end of the Hunt.. In its desprate bid to escape the animal plunged into the River Barle, near Dulverton. There it was shot as it faced the relentless hounds..
