12.8.65 Karen Muir fails to beat her world record - Wonder swimmer, 12-year old South African Karen Muir, cried at the Derby Baths Blackpool last night (Wednesday), when she failed by just two-tenths of a second to break her world record of 24 hours earlier. Thousands of spectators cheered as Karen easily won the final of the Girls' 110-yards backstroke championship of England. The day previous, in a heat, she had broken the world record, and became the youngest world record breaker in the history of sport, when her time was 68.7 secs. Photo Shows: Karen Muir discusses her future plans with team manager Alex Bulley in their Blackpool Hotel.
