Pope John XXIII left to-day Rome to Assisi and loreo for a 400 mile pilgrimage that will be the longest pontifical trip in almost a century. No pope has been in a train in a century since pope plus IX went to velletri, eeuth of Rome to inaugurate a new ratl way station. Pope John XXIII will pray to-day over the saint Francesco of Assisi for the success of the council, opening october11. Italian president sagni and Italian prime minister Fanni will be waiting for his holiness in Assisi.
