The united nations general assembly, which commenced its 39th regular session on the afternoon of 18 september, elected as its president Paul J.F. Lusakea, permanence representative of Zambia to the UN. As perace was observed on the opening day of the new session. The united nations now has 159 member states. Six other states and thirteen organization have observer status. the delegation of Norway (2nd now). headed by prime minister Kare Willoch (left) attending the General assembly today.
