prime minister and wife in no. 10 : Britain's new prim minister, 63-year-old Mr. Harold Macmillan, had been chancellor of the Exchequer since December 1955. A grandson of the founder of the publishing firm and son of a Scottish father and an American mother (helan Artie belles of Spencer, Indian), he attended Eton and oxford university. during the first world war he served with the grenadier guards and was wounded three times. In 1919 he went to Canada as A.D.C. to the Duke of devonshire, then governor-general, and the next year married his daughter, lady Dorothy Cavendish.
