"I saw Maudling Drunk" - Poulson's alleged statement: Accused architect John Paulson found former Home Secretary Reginald Maudling "In his shirtsleeves and drunk" one afternoon when he went to see him, a court was told yesterday, This was at a time when Mr. Maudling was associated with a company - the Real Estate Fund of America which, according to Poulson, Mr. Maudling hoped would make him "net a millionaire but a billionaire." This dramatic evidence came in a 30,000 word statement, allegedly made by Poulson, which was read to the jury at Leads Crown Court yesterday the 19th day of the trial of Poulson and George Pottinger, a civil servant, who both deny charges of corruption. Photo shows Mr. Maudling, the former Home Secretary, buying an underground ticket at Westminster, when homeward bound yesterday.
