It was 30 years ago today that young Jack Coombs hurled the Philadelphia Athletics to a 4 to 1 victory over the Boston Red Sox in 24 innings. It still stands as the longest game in America League history. The "iron man" is coaching baseball at Duke university now, and he says he'd "rather be doing this than starting another year in the majors."
