1960 Press Photo US Air Force's first Samos spy launched from Point Arguello, CA

The US Air Force's first Samos spy in the sky vehicle blasts off its launching pad at Point Arguello, Calif. today. The Samos was hurled into the heavens by an Atlas-Agena rocket combination and carries camera equipment to scan the world. The Samos was launched from the Navy missile facility at Point Arguello where the Air Force maintains two special Samos launch pads.
