1959 Press Photo Position of Pioneer IV, launched from Cape Canaveral, Fla

Position of Pioneer IV, our gold plated, 20 inch long cone launched from Cape Canaveral a few minutes after last midnight, is shown in this diagram. As of 3PM, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration calculated that the sun satellite was 107,900 miles from the earth and traveling at a slower speed of 5,675 miles per hour.
