President Truman and Governor Thomas E. Dewey of New York, opposing candidates in the 1948 presidential election, have a grin and a handshake for each other as they meet in what Dewey described a "cordial" get together today in the chief executive's White House office. After the conference, Dewey called for "much closer political and military alliances" among free nations in the Pacific. Dewey recently returned from a tour of the Far East.
