1943 Press Photo US marine kneeling before unharmed statue of the Blessed Virgin

Although it's pedestal was nicked and bullet pocked this statue of the Blessed Virgin at Sacred Heart Mission, Visale Bay, Guadalcanal escaped harm during bitter fighting which demolished the mission. A marine is shown kneeling before the sacred statue.
