Ben Stevenson, photographed during company rehearsal is director of the Houston Ballet. The company has figured prominently in the recent remarkable growth of the art in Houston. It has risen from relative obscurity in 1970 to a leadership role in 1980 and some critics refer to it as a model for American ballet of the future. The troupe plans to make its New York debut and to tour 10 states and Canada this season.
