Silly games, petty squabbles, tears before bedtime and not a child in sight -- that's life in the 90-minute U.S Television premiere ENDING UP. Based on the award-winning novel by Kingsley Amis, the film is set in an isolated cottage in the English countryside, where a group of elderly roommates share a far-from-gentle decline into old age. A distinguished British cast includes: (Above: standing L to R) Dame Wendy Hiller as Adela, Lionel Jeffries as Shorty, and Googie Withers as Marigold; (sitting L to R) Sir Michael Hordern as George and Sir John Mills as Bernard. (Right) In ENDING UP, Sir Michael Hordern stars as Professor Zeyer who is confined to bed following a stroke, with only his dog, Mr. Pastry, for company. George has difficulty remembering the names of everyday objects. His conversation is frustrating to the others in the household, and his lack of mobility is frustrating to himself.
