Academy Award winner Tatum O'Neal ("Paper Moon") -- stars in "Woman on the Run: The Lawrencia Bembenek Story", the story of ex-cop and former model, Lawrencia Bembenek, who served more than ten years in a Milwaukee prison for the 1981 murder of her husband's ex-wife, -- a crime she maintains she did not commit. It will be telecast on NBC Sunday and Monday Nights at the Movies, May 16 & 17 (9-11 p.m NYT). Also starring are Bruce Greenwood ("Knots Landing") as Laurie's husband, Fred Schultz; Peggy McCay ("Days of Our Lives") as Virginia Bembenek, Laurie's mother; Alex McArthur (NBC's "Desperado" movies and "Shoot First: a Cop's Vengeance") as Laurie's fiance, Nick Gugliatto; Victor Garber ("Liberace") as Canadian attorney Frank Marrocco and Saul Rubinek ("Bonfire of the Vanities") as investigate journalist Bill Bryson. Bembenek most recently made headlines when she was released from prison on December 9, 1992 after pleading no contest to a reduced charge of second-degree murder. Her release ended an 11-year saga that included being sentenced to life imprisonment in 1981, her escape from the Taycheedah Correctional Institution in 1990 and her capture three months later in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Bembenek became a media celebrity during the 1 1/2 years that she fought extradition, seeking political asylum in Canada, before giving up the fight and returning to Milwaukee earlier this year. She has consistently denied committing the murder.
