Casey Quits Managing Mets-Casey Stengel waves his cane in his New York residence today as he announces he will retire as field manager of the Mets at the end of the National Baseball League season. Stengel, 75, has been out of uniform since he broke his hip July 25. He will remain with the Mets as a vice president.
