Elizabeth Taylor has been named the 1993 recipient of The American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award, which is presented each year to an individual whose work has advanced the art of film and stood the test of time. Amont the star's film classics are (top, left to right): "National Velvet" (1944) with Mickey Rooney, "Father of the Bride" (1950) with Spencer Tracy, "Giant" (1956) with James Dean; (bottom, left to right): Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (1956) with Paul Newman, "Butterfield 8" (1960), and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woof?" (1966) with Richard Burton. "The American Film Institute Salute to Elizabeth Taylor will air Thursday, May 6 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network.
