The World In 1300 -- This medieval map depicts a flat earth, with Jerusalem at its center, surrounded by ocean -- a view of the world that prevailed throughout much of Europe from the Dark Ages to the Renaissance. How we "rediscovered" the ancient Greek view of the world as a sphere, and how we developed our present scientifically accurate world picture is explored in The Shape of the World, a new six part series premiering Monday, April 1, 1991 at 9:00 p.m. ET on public television. IBM is the sole underwriter of the series, which was produced by Granada Television in association with Thirteen/WNET, New York. Patrick Stewart narrates and hosts.
