Two skulls, show some of the difference between Neanderthals and modern humans. The Neanderthal skulll (left), 40,000 to 50,000 years old, has a sloping forehead, large brow ridges, and coars features. The Homo sapiens skull, about 28,000 years old, has finer features. But their brains were virtually the same size. Anthropologists strongly disagree on the question of whether modern humans evolved from Neanderthals or replaced them.

Photo measures 10.25 x 8 inches.
