The Porsche 924 sports a list of new standard features for 1980 which make the racy sports car more luxurious as well as economical. A "trap-door" for the gas filler and standard-equipment power windows are examples of the new body and interior appointments.
A new gearshift pattern like that of the Porsche 911SC simplifies shifting in traffic, while carefully-selected gear ratios boost both performance and economy. With the standard-equipment five-speed, the 924 is rated at 32 miles per gallon on the highway and 19 mpg around town by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
Execptional fuel economy is also due to an oxygen sensor which is integrated with the fuel injection system on all 1980 Porsches. Precise fuel-air mixture control results in better fuel economy and added power -- without the usual emission controls. With additional sound-proofing material first developed for the 924 Turbo, the normally-aspirated model is quieter as well as faster.
