1971 Press Photo Capri 2000, Lincoln-Mercury - cvb68238

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Lincoln-Mercury's popular import from Europe -- the Capri -- gets a big brother in January when a 2-liter engine and automatic transmission will be available as options. The new Capri 2000 is equipped with a high-revving, 122-cubic inch overhead cam four-cylinder engine that develops 100 horsepower, a one-third increase over the highly respectable performance of the standard Capri 1600 model. Attractive features such as power front disk brakes, styled steel wheels and radial ply tires will remain standard equipment. Because of the great demand for the Capri, the production flow into the United States will be nearly doubled to about 4,000 per month in November. Capri sales have risen rapidly since its introduction last April 17 and next month it will be named "Import Car of the Year" by Road Test magazine.
