The Cougar XR-7 enters the booming mid-size personal luxury car market in 1974 offering elegance, room and distinctive styling usually found only in much more expensive cars. In addition to all-new sheet metal, new bodyframe construction and new front and rear suspensions, the redesigned Cougar adds highly personal touches with a contemporary version of the classic Landau roof, an opera window and a stand-up but safety-hinged hood ornament. Lincoln-Mercury's newest entry has a more luxurious interior than its sporty predecessors, with upgraded seating, a new luxury door trim and plush 25-oz, cut pile carpeting. Standard equipment on the 1974 Cougar XR-7 includes full instrumentation, a 351-c.i.d 2V V8 engine, SelectShift automatic transmission, power front disc brakes, steel belted radial-ply tires and power steering. An extensive optional equipment list include automatic temperature control air conditioning, automatic speed control and an anti-theft alarm system.
