1989 Press Photo Matthew McLendon attempts to fly cross-country from LA to NYC

Eight-year-old Matthew McLendon of Dallas is trying to become the youngest pilot to fly cross-country going from Los Angeles to New York. McLendon, who started his 2700 nautical miles trek Monday stopped in Cleveland to refill his Cresnna Cessna 210 at Burke Lakefront Airport on Thursday. McLendon will undertaken another project next summer that will be a fundraiser for "World Vision", an organization to help feed hungry children in Africa.
