Painesville crime prevention officer Denise Mercsak checks for traffic before allowing children walking home from Huntington Elementary School cross N. State St. at the intersection of Hine. It was at this intersection where a 6-year-old boy was struck and killed by a pick-up truck on Monday. Mercsak spent the afternoon talking with parents as well as kids about safety when crossing the street and observing the intersection to see what can be done about preventing another tragedy at this location.
