Frank P. Samford Jr., left, director and former president of the Alabama Safety Council, presented the council's annual fleet safety award to Golden Flake Inc. Vice President John Stein Thursday. Golden Flake's 430 vehicles covered more than eight million miles in 1975 with a 2.85 accident frequency rate. Samford termed it a "significant highway safety accomplishment." In second place was Howard Hall Company of Birmingham, Glenn McClendon Trucking Company of Lafayette was third and South Central Bell, the 1974 winner, was fourth.
