Paul DeWayne Handley, the 22-year-old Trussville man charged with capital murder in connection with the February 21 slaying of his sister-in-law, appeared before District Judge Robert W. Gwin this morning to confirm the appointment of Handley's attorney, Lawrence Sheffield Jr. Handley is charged with the sexual assault and brutal slaying of Denise Murphree, 22, a college student who lived with her parents next door to him.
