Ernest F. Ladd, Jr. Mobile, Alabama - Banker. Ernest F. Ladd Jr., left, president of the Alabama Safety Council, discusses ways of improving safety in business with William L. Naumann, chairman of the board of Caterpillar Tractor Co. of Peoria, Illinois. Naumann was the featured speaker at the 10th annual meeting of the Alabama Safety Council Thursday at the Kahler Plaza Hotel in Birmingham. Naumann told the council that safety is essential to business because "it is a matter of ethics; it is required by law; and it is good business." Ladd, a Mobile banker, was elected president of the Council at the meeting. Other officers installed were Vice President William M. Spencer III of Birmingham; Secretary S.J. Mihelick of Gadsen, and Treasurer Frank A. Plummer of Montgomery.
