1976 Press Photo Richard Thigpen Re-Confers Diploma on Dr. Lelias Kirby

Dr. Lelias E. Kirby, Physician. Richard Thigpen, right, acting chief executive officer at the University of Alabama, "re-confers" the bachelor of science in medicine on Dr. Lelias E. Kirby of Birmingham in ceremonies at the Capstone. Kirby, 81, received his original degree of the University in 1924. The widely-known physician and surgeon had misplaced his first diploma and was presented a duplicate during the special commencement ceremony.
