Friday afternoon's torrential thunderstorm in Birmingham was enough to dampen even sturdy spirits and to put many streets awash, including this downtown one being forged by an unidentified but hardy soul. Water flooded five inches deep in the new wing of the Birmingham Museum of Art; officials said the museum will be closed a few days for cleanup and repairs.
