Lawyers - Colonel William C. Dufour, a long leader among the city's attorneys, was a cub reporter for The Daily City Item at the time Chief of Police Hennessy was murdered and later at the time of the trial and lynching of those charged with the assassination. Later, still, he was attorney for The Item at the time of the present management bought the paper in 1906-1907, and for purposes of re-incorporation, very briefly a stockholder and official of the Item Company.
