John L. Wheeler, chairman of California's American First Committee and son of isolationist Senator Burton K. Wheeler, is shown as he appeared before a state assembly committee investigating un-American activites. Wheeler branded as a "smear" attempt a report received by the committee which stated that alleged subversive groups had tried to work with the America First Committee.
