Description
The port of London, The Port of London Authority, celebrating its 50th anniversary this month (April 1959), controls some 4347 acres of dockyards, warehouses, quayage, power stations and industrial undertakings. It controls all traffic, maintains its own 700-man police force, and among its 30,000 workers employs an army of specialized staff. It even runs its own railroad.
