United States Air Force Planes and Fighter Jets: This is a new lightweight subsonic jet plane, the A-37, which the Air Force plans to test for close air support in Vietnam. A squadron of the planes will go to the war zone this fall for evaluation. The twin-engine plane, built by Cessna Aircraft Company, in Wichita, Kansas, is designed for close air support of ground forces, interdiction missions and counter insurgency warfare. The plane can operate at speeds up 480 miles an hour over a range of 1,400 miles.
