James Reynolds, center, Assistant Secretary of Labor, today announced that settlement efforts had failed to avert an airline strike set for tomorrow morning. With Reynolds, after negotiations broke up, are: William J. Curtin, left, chairman of the airlines group, and, J.W. Ramsey, general vice president of the AFL-CIO International Association of Machinists. The companies affected are Eastern, National Northwest, Trans World and United.
