Locust cover the doorstep of an Iranian home as the worst locust plague in 11 years brings threat of hunger and death to Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. The United States, through the point-4 program, is helping fight the invasion in these areas by donating spray planes, pilots, locust experts, and insecticides. In addition to the United States, five countries and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations are cooperating with the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture in a locust control program. The program is under the direction of Abbas Davachi of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture, and Mr. William B. Mabee, and entomologist of the United States Department of Agriculture who is supervising the Point-4 Control Program in the entire Middle East and South Asia.
