Description
A sign on County Highway P in Pepin County, WIsconsin, told the story Thursday: Water had covered the road ahead. Indeed, floodwaters from the Chippewa River had closed roads, flooded homes and stymied much of the area this week. The river, however, was falling and was expected to drop below flood stage at Durand Friday. Other swollen rivers in western Wisconsin continued to fall Thursday and Friday. However, the Mississippi River had passed flood stage and was expected to crest at about 2 feet above flood stage early next week. La Crosse County braced itself for potential flooding.
