1962 Press Photo Sue Hortensen & antique desk at the White House, Washington DC

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
The desk, first appraised as a $20,000 antique of the early 19th century, will be removed from the White House and returned to its donor because of doubts of its age. Sue Hortensen of the White House is shown with the desk. The desk, a gift of Mrs. Maurine Noun of Des Moines, Iowa, was one of Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy's treasured acquisitions in her redecoration of the White House. It was displayed on the first lady's televised tour of the White House last February. Washington DC - White House - Interior - Antiques
